Deadline Approaching for Registration of Projects Seeking 2008 NGBS Certification

In January, the 2012 National Green Building Standard (NGBS) was approved by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). At that time, Home Innovation Research Labs established deadlines for projects seeking NGBS Green Certification to the 2008 version of the NGBS and distributed those deadlines via the Home Innovation NGBS Green Insider Update, January issue. Ultimately, the 2008 NGBS will be phased out as a certification option so it is important that those wishing to seek certification to that rating system for their green home and land development projects adhere to the following deadlines:

• May 1, 2013 = Registration deadline for all projects seeking 2008 NGBS Green Certification
• August 1, 2014 = Completion deadline for single-family homes registered for 2008 NGBS Green Certification
• February 1, 2016 = Completion deadline for multifamily buildings registered for 2008 NGBS Green Certification

Home Innovation Research Labs will make no exceptions for the May 1st registration deadline for 2008 NGBS green projects. Those interested in seeking certification to the 2008 NGBS for any residential project should be sure to work with an accredited verifier to get it registered by May 1st; only accredited verifiers can register NGBS Green projects.
