DC Green Construction Code Recognizes NGBS Green Certification

The District of Columbia recently announced the adoption of the 2013 DC Construction Code and the 2013 DC Energy Conservation Code. Through the code update, the DC government is mainstreaming many elements of green building practices and demonstrating leadership in sustainability. The updated codes reflect modern, sustainable, and energy- and water-efficient building practices.

The 2013 DC Green Construction Code, which applies to the scope of all commercial projects and multifamily buildings over 4 stories, is comprised of the 2012 International Green Construction Code (IgCC) with local amendments. The ICC-700 National Green Building Standard™ (NGBS) is a recognized alternative compliance path for multifamily buildings to satisfy the Green Construction Code requirements. NGBS is recognized alongside LEED, Enterprise Green Communities, and ASHRAE 189.1.
