National Green Building Standard 2012 Update Process

As of January 10, 2013, the 2012 edition of the ICC 700 National Green Building Standard™ (NGBS) was approved by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). Read the Home Innovation Research Labs news release about the approval.

Proposed changes on the 2012 NGBS should be submitted via email in accordance with the following instructions.

Separate proposed changes shall be submitted on each specific section or part of the standard. Proposed changes shall at a minimum include:

  • Name of the individual submitting the proposed change and their affiliation (e.g., Consensus Committee, organization, company), where appropriate
  • The entity being represented on the proposed change (if different than the individual submitting the proposed change)
  • The specific section or part of the standard to which the proposed change applies
  • Changes proposed to the text of the standard, including the wording to be added, revised, or deleted, in legislative text (i.e., strikethrough and underline); changes shall not be submitted in “track changes” format
  • A statement of reason for the proposed change
  • Submitter’s email address
  • A copyright release on the submitted materials
  • Two copies of any document(s) being proposed as a referenced standard or document
