Batt Insulation R-Value

We perform thermal testing on residential batt insulation – in a range of materials, thicknesses, widths, and densities.

Loose Fill Insulation R-Value

To effectively test the thermal performance of loose fill insulation, we evaluate both coverage and R-value after the product is installed with the same equipment and methods used by contractors in the field.

Foam Insulation R-Value

We test the performance of both rigid and spray foam insulation materials – products that are gaining market share as builders strive to meet ever-increasing energy codes.  

Hot Box Testing

Insulation is never used as a stand-alone material in homes – it’s always part of a system or assembly. Therefore we have the unique ability to test complete assemblies as large as 9’x16’ in our rotatable calibrated hot box. Our hot box allows the evaluation of various combinations of vertical walls, flat roofs, and cathedral ceilings, with all types of siding, sheathing, framing, insulation, and interior finish.

Air Infiltration Testing

Another critical factor affecting a home's energy efficiency and thermal performance is air infiltration. We can run ASTM E283 testing to measure air leakage through components such as doors or windows or through assemblies such as wall systems.

Other Insulation Testing

Besides R-value, insulation materials are often tested for properties of moisture absorption, vapor transmission, and odor. We can conduct all of these tests to give you a complete assessment of your insulation product.
