Home Innovation Research Labs is looking for an inspired building scientist/building construction engineer to join our research team responsible for programmatic efforts in the fields of energy efficiency, energy modeling, technology innovation, and green building in residential construction.
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of relevant experience.
- MS Mechanical, Civil/Structural, or Electrical Engineering (BS with commensurate experience).
- Have demonstrated ability to support, lead, and manage both government and industry complex research projects to completion on time and within budget.
- Strong communication skills (development of written products, presentations at conferences).
- Advanced knowledge of energy performance of residential buildings and their mechanical systems.
- Energy modeling experience.
- Advanced knowledge of building science principles as applicable to building enclosure.
- Knowledge of building codes and design standards.
- Practical knowledge of residential building technologies, construction processes, building codes and design standards, and industry trend.
- Knowledge of sustainability principles and green programs.
- EIT certification or registered Professional Engineer preferred.
Additional preferred set of skills
- Experience with multifamily and commercial construction.
- Adept at networking and relationship building in the residential construction industry field.
- Familiar with the standards development process.
- Demonstrated hands-on field engineering experience (i.e., construction site, laboratory, or manufacturing environment).
Responsibilities
- Conduct research and analysis for government and industry clients with focus on advancing construction technology in the areas of energy efficiency, durability, cost effectiveness, and green buildings.
- Conduct energy modeling and review energy models performed by others.
- Provide technical support for high performance certification programs (NGBS, Energy Star, etc.)
- Develop written products including research plans, project reports and proposals.
- Evaluate innovative building technologies through laboratory testing, cost evaluations, field studies, and analysis.
- Participate in codes and standards development forums.
- Assist with standards development efforts following ANSI procedures.
- Present at conferences and industry events.
