Home Innovation Research Labs is seeking a recent engineering graduate to join our Building Science Division. This person will be responsible for project work in the areas of energy efficiency, disaster resistance, cost evaluation, technology innovation, and green building in residential construction.
Requirements
- 0-2 years of relevant experience (minimum).
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical / Civil / Electrical / Architectural / Structural Engineering.
- Knowledge of building science and construction technologies for single-family and multifamily applications.
- Knowledge of disaster resistance and structural performance of residential systems.
- Knowledge of building codes and design standards.
- Practical knowledge of the residential building industry and construction processes.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking abilities with excellent attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills (development of written products, presentations at conferences).
Additional preferred set of skills
- Knowledge of sustainable principles and green rating systems.
- Knowledge of building codes and design standards.
- Knowledge of data analysis and presentation skills.
- Internship experience in a laboratory setting a plus.
- Internship experience with energy modeling a plus.
Responsibilities
- Assist with research and analysis for government and industry clients with focus on advancing construction technology in the areas of energy efficiency, disaster resistance, durability, and green buildings.
- Assist with analytical and experimental research in the area of building science and high performing buildings.
- Assist with the evaluation of technologies in residential construction in the laboratory and the field.
- Participate in codes and standards development forums.
- Review verification reports for NGBS Green certification for compliance.
- Work with Verifiers to collect necessary information for HI to make certification decisions.
- Provide assessment of reports from Energy code compliance modeling tools for ENERGY STAR, RESNET, and NGBS standards.
- Interpret and apply model building codes for fulfilling green standards.
- Support customers, project managers and field technicians in compliance with NGBS and ENERGY STAR.
- Provide technical assistance and guidance on code and energy program standards and regulation.
