Home Innovation Research Labs is seeking a detail oriented, high performing self-starter who is passionate about sustainability in the built environment. This position, located in our Upper Marlboro, Maryland headquarters, handles all aspects of growing and managing our green building programs which includes building and product certifications based on ICC/ASHRAE-700 National Green Building Standard (NGBS).

The ideal candidate must have exemplary project management skills, an in-depth knowledge of residential green and energy rating systems along with the ability to concurrently champion multiple program priorities to completion.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the administration of Home Innovation’s green building programs
• Work to grow the NGBS Green certification program nationally
• Recruit and enroll manufacturers and products for the Green Certified Product program
• Train program partners, including architects, builders, developers, remodelers, and verifiers
• Advocate for NGBS Green certification in local, state, and federal initiatives
• Provide technical assistance, develop program enhancements, create program resources, and formulate policy regarding NGBS Green certification
• Use excellent written, listening, and verbal communication skills with internal and external partners
• Generate ideas and write articles for publication about the program, green building, and the NGBS
• Deliver top-quality customer support
• Review NGBS Green verification reports for compliance

• Support the Home Innovation’s mission to improve the affordability, durability, and performance of housing by eliminating barriers to innovation.
• Promote NGBS Green certification to increase the number of homes and apartments seeking green certification.
• Continually work to streamline and improve our certification processes, procedures, and policies with input from our certification program partners.

Required Skills, Education & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in a field of study related to one or more of the following specialties:
  • Architecture (architecture, landscape architecture, interior design)
  • Planning or Policy (urban/transportation/environmental planning, urban design)
  • Environmental Science (ecology, biology, environmental management)
  • Building Science/ Construction (sustainable construction, building design, and building performance)
• Relevant work experience may potentially substitute for the specific education requirement
• Knowledge of housing issues, residential energy-efficient construction, and green building
• Experience in project management
• Familiarity with energy modeling
• Excellent communication skills, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills
• Highly self-motivated, able to set appropriate long- and short-term goals, and initiate a work plan independently
• Detail-oriented and able to prioritize
• Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
• Willingness to travel
• Ability to work well both independently and on teams
• Comfortable making presentations to audiences of various sizes
