Home Innovation Research Labs is looking for an inspired building scientist/building construction/structural engineer to join our research team responsible for programmatic efforts in the fields of energy efficiency, disaster resistance, cost evaluation, technology innovation, and green building in residential construction.
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of relevant experience.
- Master’s Degree (Bachelor's degree in Civil/Structural Engineering or an equivalent discipline with commensurate experience).
- Advanced knowledge of building science and construction technologies for single-family and multifamily applications.
- Understanding of disaster resistance and structural performance of residential systems.
- Knowledge of building codes and design standards.
- Practical knowledge of the residential building industry, construction processes, and market trends.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking abilities with excellent attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills (development of written products, presentations at conferences).
Additional preferred set of skills
- Understanding of construction costs.
- Energy modeling experience.
- Experience with commercial construction.
- Adept at networking and relationship building in the residential construction industry field.
Responsibilities
- Conduct research and analysis for government and industry clients with focus on advancing construction technology in the areas of energy efficiency, disaster resistance, durability, and green buildings.
- Critically assess and evaluate the positive and negative effects of proposed and existing residential building code regulations/changes and non-regulatory alternatives.
- Develop written products including research plans, project reports, and proposals.
- Actively participate in establishing research agenda for high performance construction.
- Evaluate innovative building technologies through laboratory testing, field studies, and analysis.
- Participate in codes and standards development forums.
- Present at conferences and industry events.
