Solar and Energy Efficiency: Projects and programs in low-to-moderate income communities

Join in on Tuesday, May 14th at 2pm ET for a webinar titled, "Solar and Energy Efficiency: Projects and programs in low-to-moderate income communities."

This is the second part of the solar and energy efficiency in low-to-moderate income (LMI) communities webinar series. This webinar will provide examples of projects and programs already demonstrating significant advancement of solar and energy efficiency in LMI communities.

Grid Alternatives a non-profit organization that brings the benefits of solar technology to communities that would not otherwise have access will present the scope of their work. Grid will also discuss its no cost solar installation and community solar models for communities that qualify as low income.

Denver Housing Authority (DHA) will outline best practices and lessons learned in expanding solar access and energy efficiency to low income communities including its solar-ready and energy efficiency design standards for new construction.

Attendees will also learn about the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Solar in Your Community Challenge (SIYC). The SIYC is a $5 million competition that incentivizes the development of new models that can expand solar access across America and increase energy affordability. The challenge encourages teams to demonstrate innovative business and financial models to expand access to nonprofits, faith-based organizations, state and local governments, and low- and moderate-income communities, all of which face unique barriers to installing solar. The DOE will give an overview of some of the models that have come out of the SIYC.
