Greening Your Multifamily Projects with the National Green Building Standard

Orlando, Fla. - Green building isn't just for single-family homes. Consumer interest in sustainable building practices is growing, as discussed by the speakers in a special Apartment & Condo Central presentation during the 2012 International Builders’ Show.

Nationally recognized architect Sanford Steinberg and multifamily building executive Janet Bowler joined Michelle Desiderio, director of green building programs for Home Innovation Research Labs, to let other multifamily builders and developers know the benefits of building and certifying projects to the NGBS. The Standard, which includes a comprehensive rating system, has criteria applicable to high- and low-rise condominiums and apartment buildings, as well as housing in mixed-use projects. The standard and its accompanying multi-unit checklist serve as flexible, regionally appropriate resources for multifamily developers seeking green certification of new or remodeled buildings.
