Home Innovation NGBS Green Certification Partners Receive National Green Building Awards

Last night during its International Builders’ Show, the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) recognized several builders, remodelers, and other home building professionals as National Green Building Award winners. Among these winners were six active participants in Home Innovation Research Labs NGBS Green Certification Program.

Each year, NAHB recognizes individuals and organizations for excellence in residential green design and construction practices and for green building program and advocacy efforts. This year’s winners were all noted as having superior dedication and leadership to the mission of sustainable and eco-friendly living.

The project recognized as the Single-Family, Custom Project of the Year was the Maryland Green Designer Show Home in Gambrills, Md. This project received Emerald-level NGBS green certification from Home Innovation Labs in 2012.

The project recognized as Remodel of the Year was Finding Paradise on Picardy, a 1963 whole-house remodel in Cary, N.C., that was certified by Home Innovation Labs to the Bronze level. This project also happened to be the first NGBS-certified remodel to be entered into the HBA of Raleigh-Wake County’s remodeled homes tour.

The multifamily project recognized as Project of the Year was Seabourn Cove in Boynton Beach, Fla. This project by Gulfstream Gardens and FM Contract Service is the largest to be NGBS green certified by Home Innovation Labs at the Gold level.

Dan Wise of Wise Construction in Boalsburg, Pa., and Drew Smith of Two Trails in Sarasota, Fla., are both Home Innovation-accredited green verifiers who were recognized with Green Building Advocate of the Year Awards.

Laclede Gas Company of St. Louis, Mo., was also named the Utility Partner of the Year for its dedication to high-performance building, the ICC 700 National Green Building Standard, and education at the local and national level. Laclede Gas has several Home Innovation-accredited green verifiers on staff and has sponsored multiple NGBS education sessions for the real estate industry in the Greater St. Louis metropolitan area.
