Opportunity for Green Homes to Be More Appropriately Valued in Appraisals

The Appraisal Foundation’s Appraisal Practices Board has released the third-exposure draft of its Valuation of Green and High Performance Property: Background and Core Competency guidance document for evaluating green residential buildings.

The document is the first release of a three-part series on green and high performance properties. Subsequent documents will focus on commercial, multifamily, and institutional properties.

Stakeholders in the home building industry, as well as appraisers and lenders, are encouraged to submit feedback on the draft documents before December 12, 2014. Home Innovation Research Labs intends to submit comments and encourages partners in our NGBS Green Certification program to consider doing so as well.

A copy of the document is available online for download. Written comments on this draft can be submitted by mail (Appraisal Practices Board, The Appraisal Foundation, 1155 15th Street, NW, Suite 1111, Washington, DC 20005), email, or fax (202.347.7727).
