Home Innovation Research Labs Announces Next Meeting of Consensus Committee For National Green Building Standard 2012 Update

Upper Marlboro, Md. - The Home Innovation Research Labs, secretariat for the 2012 Update of the National Green Building Standard, recently announced that the next meeting of the Consensus Committee will take place February 21-23, 2012, at the National Housing Center in Washington, DC. It will be open to the public.
During this meeting, the 41-member Consensus Committee will discuss and develop actions on public comments to the Draft Standard that were received by the deadline. Only changes in the Draft Standard, points, and the standard’s reference document were open for public comment.
Approximately 200 public comments were received for the Draft Standard. The nature of the comments touched on a wide range of topics including land development, resource efficiency, energy and water efficiency, indoor environmental quality, and operation and maintenance.
All changes that are approved by the Consensus Committee will be open for another public comment period. After all public comments are considered, the Consensus Committee’s charge will be complete and the revised standard will be submitted to ANSI for approval.
Initiated originally in 2007 by the International Code Council and NAHB, the 2008 National Green Building Standard was developed by a 42-member Consensus Committee and approved by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) in January 2009, making it the first point-based rating system for green residential construction, remodeling, and land development to be approved by ANSI. As an ANSI-approved standard, the document is subject to periodic updates as a way to ensure that advances in building codes, technology, and other developments can be considered for incorporation.
