Active Field Demonstrations
Home Innovation Research Labs is actively engaged in a variety of open field studies that evaluate the performance of building products and systems in real-world conditions. These ongoing studies provide dynamic insights into how materials and technologies function in actual homes, accounting for factors like climate variation, occupant behavior, and long-term wear. Our team’s meticulous data collection and analysis allow us to track product effectiveness, durability, energy efficiency, and more over time, providing manufacturers, builders, and consumers with up-to-date, reliable information.
Current Open Field Studies
Deep Energy Retrofits with Vacuum Insulated Panels (VIPs)
In an ongoing field study, Home Innovation is working with the Department of Energy to study Vacuum Insulated Panels (VIPs) as a retrofit solution to reduce energy usage in multifamily homes. The study began with product development and testing and will then compare baseline energy usage and indoor air quality data prior to the retrofit to data gathered after the completed retrofit.
HEMP-LIME Insulation Product Evaluation
Working with the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority, Home Innovation is evaluating HEMP-LIME insulation products and their potential applications in multifamily affordable housing. The project begins with material testing for performance characterization and installation requirements, and will then continue with field demonstration and long-term performance monitoring.
