Last Updated: 04/04/2012

Public Comment Period for NGBS Change in Scope Starts February 24, 2012

The Executive Standards Committee (ESC) of Home Innovation Research Labs recently approved changes to the National Green Building Standard (NGBS) that are under the purview of the ESC. In accordance with Home Innovation Labs’s procedures, these changes are not under the purview of the NGBS Consensus Committee.

One is a substantive change of adding “Accessory Structures” to the Scope of the NGBS. The reason for adding “Accessory Structures” was to align the Standard with the with referenced International Code Council building codes and in response to requests from sponsoring organizations, the National Association of Home Builders and International Code Council.

The other changes were a reorganization of the text related to the Scope, Intent, and Applicability” as shown in the 2008 edition of the NGBS.

A 30-day public comment period for the recent changes, including the change in scope, will open February 24, 2012 and close March 25. The following form must be used to file a comment. (PDF  or MSWord Word Logo files).
