What is the National Green Building Standard (NGBS)?
The NGBS is the first and only residential green building rating system to undergo the full consensus process and receive approval from the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). It provides a framework to ensure energy efficiency, water efficiency, resource conservation, and healthier indoor environments.
Why NGBS Green is the Standard for Sustainable Building Certification
Trusted by builders, remodelers, and homeowners, NGBS Green certification reflects a commitment to sustainability and quality. NGBS Green certification is more than a label—it's a promise.
As an ANSI-approved green building standard, it undergoes rigorous updates every three years, consistently raising the bar for performance baselines. The standard's specific design for residential buildings – encompassing single-family homes, townhouses, duplexes, multifamily buildings, student housing, assisted living, and group homes – makes it uniquely suited to drive the creation of high-performance homes that are both environmentally responsible and economically viable.
Our credibility and consistency ensures a holistic approach to green building. With over 600,000 Green Certified Homes, NGBS is your key to a healthier home.
