October 22, 2020 | Upper Marlboro, MD

A Quarter Million Strong & Growing!

Home Innovation Research Labs Celebrates 250,000 NGBS Green Certified Homes

Today, Home Innovation Research Labs certified the 250,000th NGBS Green Certified home! The project that capped off the first quarter million for the NGBS Green program was Alliance Residential’s Broadstone Junction community in Norcross, Ga. – a multifamily project comprised of two historic renovation and two new buildings, with 290 market rate apartments in total. The NGBS Green Verifier on the project was Master Verifier Joe Baumann, of SK Collaborative in Decatur, Ga.

Broadstone Junction

NGBS Green Certified Broadstone Junction in Norcross, Georgia, built by Alliance Residential,
includes the certification program’s 250,000th certified home.

This milestone is not only significant for its sheer number, but also for how quickly we got here – it was just 10 months ago when we celebrated reaching 200,000 NGBS Green Certified homes … and we’ve been in the throes of a global pandemic for most of that time! This truly speaks to the practicality and power of NGBS Green certification and the National Green Building Standard (NGBS) upon which it is based. It has created a rigorous yet affordable and flexible choice for third-party certification that allows builders of all types and sizes to provide comprehensively green homes to mainstream buyers across the country. And, with this year’s debut of the 2020 NGBS, the certification now extends to even more single-family, multifamily, and mixed-use builders and buildings of all sizes.

For the management team at Alliance Residential, a long-time NGBS Green program partner, it’s a choice that just makes sense: “With NGBS Green Certified homes, we as a company and our residents can all take pride in knowing that the property promotes a sustainable lifestyle in all aspects: energy efficiency, water efficiency, resource efficiency, lot development, operation and maintenance, and indoor environmental quality.” Keep an eye out for a case study on this milestone multifamily project that will be posted soon on the NGBS Green Resources page.

And they’re not alone in that confidence. NGBS Green has become the green certification program of choice for the residential construction industry. With all the new options available under the 2020 NGBS, there has never been a better time to tap into the benefits of this certification program. Whatever type of home you build and wherever you build it, NGBS Green has a certification for it.
