Home Innovation Research Labs is seeking an energetic team player with excellent communication skills. We are searching for a highly professional candidate to manage and execute client projects in our materials and structures lab. Projects include product certification and conformity evaluation to construction codes and standards. This position includes office responsibilities as well as oversight and hands-on assistance in the lab.

You will be coordinating all laboratory activities to ensure work is completed on time and in accordance with project requirements and test standards. You will support laboratory staff in testing, including set-up and tear-down. You will work with the lab director to maintain laboratory accreditations.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong attention to detail, analytical and critical thinking skills, excellent communication skills, solution-oriented knowledge, and a collaborative attitude that is essential for working in our lab. The candidate is required to have practical knowledge of science and engineering, as well as mathematics or computer science.

Requirements:

  • BS degree in engineering or related field
  • 5+ Years of laboratory experience or related experience
  • Knowledge of construction industry, building codes and ASTM standards
  • Read and interpret standards and codes to make recommendations in developing testing programs, lab protocols, training, test reports and expanding testing capabilities
  • Ability to instrument test specimens with data acquisition sensors
  • Strong construction skills – ability to build test specimens and assemblies (walls, roofs, floors and other systems) to exacting specifications
  • Interpret test data to create and write technical reports per ASTM and other test standards
  • Moderate lifting required as part of day to day job functions 

Additional Preferred Set of Skills:

  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) or ability to obtain within 12 months
  • Experience in an ISO17025 accredited test lab Experience programming with LabVIEW
  • Familiarity with various test instruments and data acquisition for testing

Responsibilities:

  • Plan, organize and work with lab director on orchestrating product testing and certification activities, including construction of test specimens and assemblies
  • Perform construction materials laboratory testing per ASTM and other test standards
  • Enforce compliance of all related work to quality and procedure requirements
  • Assist with laboratory accreditation efforts, including participating in audits and ensuring adherence to Quality Management System (QMS)
  • Independently conduct virtual inspection of products to determine compliance with applicable standards
  • Travel when needed (approximately once a month) to train field representatives on assigned testing programs
  • Perform maintenance, arrange calibration and operation of laboratory testing equipment
  • Ensure that the laboratory equipment and facilities are well-maintained
  • Ensure that samples are handled and tested in accordance with test standards and specifications and results reported in a timely manner
