Home Innovation Announces Residential Resiliency Guide Advisory Group

After careful consideration of over 110 applications to be part of the Advisory Group for HUD’s Residential Resilience Guidelines for Builders & Developers, Home Innovation Research Labs is happy to announce the 31 individuals that will comprise the group, in addition to its chair, Randy Noel, MIRM, CGB, CMP, of REVE, Inc., a leading single-family builder from LaPlace, La.

Ultimately, with the guidance of this group, Home Innovation is tasked by HUD with producing a set of practical, actionable guidelines for builders and developers to design and construct residential buildings, neighborhoods, and accessory structures to improve residential resilience and integrate that resiliency with the entire community.

To accomplish this goal, Home Innovation was careful to select Advisory Group members who represent a diverse set of skills, experience, and regional knowledge. The group includes architects, engineers, planners, developers, emergency managers, building code officials, builders, and representatives from federal, state, and local government agencies. The group was also selected to ensure a balance within three specific categories of expertise – Users, Producers, and Public Interest. The inaugural meeting of the Advisory Group will be Monday, February 24, 2020, at Home Innovation’s headquarters in Upper Marlboro, Md. During this initial meeting, the group will review processes and protocols for developing the Residential Resilience Guidelines for Builders & Developers, including:

• Role and function of the Advisory Group, Chair, Task Groups
• Voting requirements for content development & approval
• Openness of the process – all meetings; public input/comment on drafts; etc.
• Oversight role of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) PD&R Division
• Role of Home Innovation Research Labs as moderator & manager of the Guideline development process
