Predicting a Place for Plastics in the Construction Industry

Presenting this week at the Society of Plastics Engineers’ 2019 ANTEC Conference in Detroit, Home Innovation’s Director of Market Research Ed Hudson spoke about opportunities for building materials manufacturers, particularly focused on plastics materials, based on major changes happening in the residential construction industry. Ed’s insights are based on data from our Annual Builder and Consumer Practices Surveys, as well as his own decades-long analysis of industry trends.

Trends in Home Remodeling Window Frame Materials

Presentation by Ed Hudson during 2019 ANTEC Conference, Detroit.

The key changes Ed highlighted during his presentation include:

  • changing homebuyer demographics favoring more modestly-priced materials
  • rising labor and materials costs favoring easy- and quick-to-install products
  • smaller building lots and their impact on fire-resistant and privacy-promoting materials
  • increased opportunities for improving energy efficiency—including more efficient windows; home design trends; and the demand for natural-looking materials

Ed is frequently called upon to share his insights with various industry groups. If you’re interested in finding out more about the data presented above, purchasing your own survey data reports, or enlisting Ed to present at your industry conference, get in touch.
