Trends & Opportunities for Plastic Profile Materials in Residential Construction

Presenting earlier this week at AMI’s 2019 Profiles Conference in Pittsburgh, Home Innovation’s Director of Market Research Ed Hudson spoke about some of the big changes happening in the home construction and remodeling industries as they relate to plastics. Specifically, he covered trends happening in Windows & Patio Doors, Roofing, Siding & Exterior Finishes, Exterior Trim & Fascia, Decks & Railing Systems, and Fences & Privacy Walls. Ed’s insights are based on data from our Annual Builder and Consumer Practices Surveys, as well as his own decades-long analysis of industry trends.

Ed highlighted some key trends that are currently shaping the building materials industry, and providing both challenges and opportunities for manufacturers, including:

  • the skilled labor shortage
  • increased cost of construction materials
  • lower availability of residential development property
  • more rigorous energy codes
  • changing buyer/renter demographics
  • drive for more durable products
  • technology improvements
  • simplified/more contemporary design trends in both interiors and exteriors
  • desire to unify/blur the transition between indoor and outdoor living spaces

Ed is frequently called upon to share his insights with various industry groups. If you’re interested in finding out more about the data presented above, purchasing your own survey data reports, or enlisting Ed to present at your industry conference, get in touch.
